When it comes to the matter of the most used packaging material, the name of cardboard boxes would come first. The carton box is one of the most common materials in the entire packaging industry. When we look at a carton box, we can see brightly coloured printed stuff. Then it is even very tough to imagine that all these boxes get their life from a tree. As users, we often forget to assess how any product came into existence. So let’s discuss the detailed steps that show how a tree comes to be a box.
The very initial step of carton box production is choosing the right tree. Many of us even don’t know that carton boxes are made from trees especially softwood trees such as pine and fir tree. The main reason behind the nomination of these trees is their long fibre that can aid in achieving a smooth and soft finish. Not only these, but selection of these softwood trees can also make the carton boxes get the right tension which helps in boosting the strength.
Many corrugated box manufacturers select trees from sustainable woodland. The colour of the carton depends primarily on the type of trees chosen. For instance, a source would generate lighter-coloured carton boxes whereas silver birch can create dark-coloured boxes.
After choosing the right tree, now it is the turn for pulp creation. Wood chips are generally made from the felling of the tree. Wood chips are then formed into pulp by scraping them against a stone. This process can be done also by chemical booking of the wood chips. After the wood pulp is made, chemicals like sodium sulphate are added to the mixture to boost its strength.
Every tree pulp is different from the others and thus possesses a distinct colour. In most cases, carton box manufacturers keep the pulp colour the same while making the products. But sometimes, bleach is used to make the boxes get a white appearance.
Once the tree pulp begins to get dried, the formation of carton boxes gets started. Two pieces of paper and a portion of fluted cardboard are required for making corrugated boxes.
Fluted cardboard sits between the papers which helps in delivering more strength and safety against corrosion. While making carton boxes, paper rolls are fed through a corrugated roller that flutes the paper.
The quality of the boxes majorly depends on the fluting. For example, high-quality boxes are made with higher usage of fluting and raw material whereas low-quality boxes are made with less fluting. The corrugation device utilises hot steam to generate the flutes. At the same time, the glue comes down each side of the flute for better adhesion. Once corrugated carton boxes are constructed by eco-friendly packaging manufacturers, it is then cut short to offer straight edges.
After all this, now what is needed is to cut the cards with a trimmer according to the required size. After successful cutting, the corrugated carton boxes are assembled, dyed and printed as per the market demand. The most intriguing factor in this entire manufacturing process is the cuts can be recycled for further production. We hope this article can help you to increase your insight into this matter.
